Zyrtec Application

Therapeutic action:
Zyrtec or Cetirizine HCl is in a group of drugs called antihistamines. The main effect of Zyrtec is blocking the action of a chemical called Histamine in the body of the patient. Through that the needed effect (lowering of allergy symptoms) is acquired. Zyrtec is a metabolite of hydroxyzine that is why the effects manifested by cetirizine, hydroxyzine are similar. Zyrtec does not pass the blood-brain barrier efficiently by that the decrease in sedating effect that is typical for all antihistamines is reached.

Indication:
Zyrtec is prescribed in treatment of:

  • Seasonal allergic rhinitis(Hay fever) is described by a seasonal occurrence caused by outdoor allergens it looks like a cold except for the fact that it occurs at a certain period.

Both of the above mentioned illnesses have similar symptoms: nasal congestion, sneezing, nasal drip, dry cough, headaches and etc.

Zyrtec is a type of OTC medicine and you can easily acquire it in any pharmacy store if it is available, but before starting treatment you should consult your local doctor on possible interactions with the medicine and vitamins you are already taking or will be taking. There were no significant interactions found during clinical trials, but it is known that Zyrtec may interact with teophilin with a result of decreased clearance for Cetirizine.
